What We Do

Our Vision

Our volunteer board makes a significant impact on the lives of families with children age prenatal through five, and that live in Hardin or Marshall County, Iowa.  We award grants to programs that ensure young children will be healthy physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. We have a strong commitment to our communities and want to see each child grow, learn and succeed.

The Iowa River Valley Early Childhood Area Board is active in providing preschool tuition scholarships to low income children, improving child care environments, increasing quality child care capacity, preschool transportation services, wrap-around care, early literacy activities, and family support services…and that is just to name a few!

Our Story

Our Purpose

Beginning at birth, every child in Hardin and Marshall County will be physically, mentally, socially and spiritually healthy.

Our Mission

When Early Childhood Iowa (formerly Empowerment) was first formed, it was on the basis of giving local volunteers the power to impact the lives of children and families in their communities. It’s primary goal, is to “Ensure every child beginning at birth, will be healthy and successful.”

The Hardin and Marshall County Early Childhood Iowa Boards served communities for over thirteen years. After a merger in 2012, we are now the Iowa River Early Childhood Area Board. We work to build a larger and more comprehensive system of serving children age prenatal through five.

The purpose of the Iowa River Valley Early Childhood Area Board is to empower and enable local citizens to lead collaborative efforts involving education, health, and human service programs on behalf of the children, families, and other citizens residing in Marshall and Hardin Counties.  The goal of the Iowa River Valley Early Childhood Area is to have its activities improve the quality of life for families with young children.
